This is CDB’s second Rail-Served, Intermodal Distribution Center in the E. Kelly Railport of Port San Antonio. Construction began on the 275,400 SF building in April of 2008 and includes a covered Chicago Dock. Although the dock extends the full length of the building, the canopy does not to avoid the fire code issues faced in construction of the first building at East Kelly. The tenant took occupancy of the first building in March 2008 and has already leased what is essentially the entire building. Their success demonstrates the need and desire for this type of building at Port San Antonio, creating a unique niche for CDB. We continue to work with trades normally not dealt with in commercial work like rail road, and the various governmental agencies required for oversight and inspections/approval now that Port SA issues their own permits. This building is also constructed with LEED certification in mind. 1 foot of the building pad’s ‘select fill’ is made up of recycled crushed concrete and at least 75% of construction waste will be diverted from landfills and recycled.
